The problem

Stop manually splitting client applications.

IRCC's online systems don't share one file size limit — they enforce different caps depending on which portal or webform a document goes through, and a file that clears one submission system will bounce off another. Re-scanning documents at a lower resolution to force them under a limit wastes hours of billable time per file and risks handing back illegible passport scans or bank statements. Most consultants find out the hard way, mid-submission, with a client's deadline already running.

Works with the files you handle every day

A typical filing day

A client sends over a scanned passport, six months of bank statements, and a completed IMM 5669 (Schedule A — Background/Declaration) the night before a Permanent Residence Portal deadline. The combined PDF is 18 MB. Re-scanning everything at a lower resolution would take an hour and risk an unreadable stamp page; MakeMB compresses it in the browser in seconds, or splits it into parts that are each guaranteed to clear the portal's limit — without the file ever leaving the consultant's device.

IRCC's file size limits, by portal

IRCC doesn't publish one number — it depends on which system the file goes through. Consultants filing IMM 5669 (Schedule A), IMM 5406 (Additional Family Information), IMM 0008 packages, or client passport and police-certificate scans will hit whichever limit applies to that submission:

IRCC Webform (e.g. Interest to Sponsor)
2 MB per file
IRCC Secure Account
4 MB per file
Permanent Residence Portal
4 MB per file
Online citizenship application
4 MB per file
Asylum Portal
4 MB per file
IRCC Portal — new version
5 MB per file

IRCC updates its portals and limits without notice — treat this as a starting point and confirm the current limit on IRCC's own page before a submission that matters. IRCC Help Centre — "Is there a file size limit for documents I upload to my account?" ↗

Built for immigration consultants

One tool, every IRCC file size limit.

Client-side by design
Your clients' passports, bank statements, and IMM-series forms never leave your browser — nothing is uploaded to a server to compress or split it. GDPR and PIPEDA aligned. Zero data retention.
Smart splitting
If compression isn't enough — a scanned passport photo page won't compress much further — the Split tool automatically divides the PDF into parts, each guaranteed to be under whichever IRCC limit you set, from 2 MB webforms to the 5 MB new-version portal.

FAQ

Questions from immigration consultants.

What's the actual file size limit for IRCC uploads?
It depends on where you're submitting. IRCC's Secure Account, the Permanent Residence Portal, the online citizenship application, and the Asylum Portal all cap individual files at 4 MB. The newer IRCC Portal allows 5 MB. IRCC's Webform — used for submissions like the Interest to Sponsor form — caps each file at 2 MB, with roughly 3.5 MB total across multiple files. These figures come straight from IRCC's own Help Centre, not from us, and IRCC can change them without notice — worth confirming on their page before a submission that matters. MakeMB compresses or splits your file to fit whichever limit applies to the system you're using.
Will compression make a client's documents illegible?
No — compression recompresses the embedded images in the PDF rather than re-scanning at a lower resolution, so text and photos stay readable at any reasonable target size. If a file still won't fit after compressing — a dense multi-page bank statement, for example — use Split instead: it divides the PDF into parts that are each guaranteed to be under the limit, rather than degrading image quality further to force a fit.
Does this fit with my confidentiality obligations as an RCIC?
MakeMB processes every file entirely in your browser — your clients' passports, financial records, and forms are never uploaded to a server, and nothing about the file's contents is visible to us at any point. That technical property supports the confidentiality obligations in the CICC Code of Professional Conduct, though you should always confirm compliance requirements for your own practice; we're not your compliance advisor.
Can I use this for IMM forms and scanned passports?
Yes. MakeMB works with any PDF, including the documents that come up most often in an immigration file: IMM 5669 (Schedule A — Background/Declaration), IMM 5406 (Additional Family Information), IMM 0008 generic application packages, passport and travel-document bio-data page scans, police certificates, and bank or employment statements. Whether a given file needs compressing or splitting depends on which IRCC system it's headed to — see the size limits above — but the tool itself works the same way regardless of document type.
Is there a referral program?
Yes. Once you're signed up, share your personal referral link — found in your account — with a colleague who deals with the same IRCC file-size limits. When they sign up, you get 10 bonus credits automatically.
